Mohammed Fuseini, a forward for Union St. Gilloise, was violently robbed last Sunday and had valuables stolen. The attack was filmed by a teammate, and the footage proved crucial to the investigation.
Mohammed Fuseini fell victim to a violent robbery in Brussels last Sunday. The Royale Union Saint-Gilloise forward endured a traumatic ordeal after being forcibly removed from his own car.
The incident began on Sunday morning as the 24-year-old player was leaving a nightclub on Avenue Louise in Brussels. According to the Belgian outlet “HLN,” Fuseini was suddenly confronted by a group of five hooded men as he got into his car and was dragged out of the vehicle.
Once outside, the forward was restrained by three of the assailants, who quickly stole his mobile phone and a Rolex Datejust. The watch is estimated to be worth between 8,000 and 14,000 euros.
These three men continued to hold Fuseini down while another suspect searched the interior of the South African player’s car.
The robbers fled shortly after the attack, though the entire incident was captured on video by a witness. Relebohile Mofokeng, a teammate of Fuseini, managed to record the robbery; he was with the forward at the time but was not attacked himself.
The footage of the robbery was instrumental in allowing the authorities to quickly identify the suspects. The Public Prosecutor’s Office subsequently revealed that Fuseini was not the only victim, as two other people had also been subjected to violent robberies. Those two victims reportedly sustained serious injuries that left them unable to work. As was the case with the Royale Union Saint-Gilloise player, the goal of the robberies was to obtain valuables for later resale. Furthermore, information from the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office indicates that the robberies were carried out in the same manner—specifically, as the victims were returning to their cars.
The investigation proceeded and resulted in the identification and arrest of a 23-year-old suspect. A subsequent search of his home led to the recovery of some of the previously stolen items.
Consequently, the suspect will appear before an investigating judge after being charged with robbery involving violence committed by a group.
