Lille and Rennes won their games today in the French football league, keeping alive the race for third place in the championship, the last place that guarantees qualification for the Champions League group stage.
With three rounds remaining and PSG and Lens secure in the top two places, Paulo Fonseca’s Lyon is in third place with 57 points, closely followed by Lille (57), Rennes (56) and even Marseille (53).
Today, Lille won in the capital against Paris FC, 1-0, Rennes won 2-1 at home against Nantes, and Marseille drew with Nice (1-1).
At the Jean Bouin stadium, Lille’s dominance was very clear, and the narrow victory was a close one – the Belgian Matias Fernandez-Pardo scored in the 26th minute from a penalty.
Portuguese forward Felix Correia started the match, being substituted seven minutes from the end.
Also from a penalty, Rennes took the lead at Roazhon Park in the eighth minute through Esteban Lepaul.
Cameroonian Ganago equalized in the 40th minute, with the home side securing the victory in the 90+2 minute through Valentin Rongier. Anthony Lopes, in goal for Nantes, was poorly beaten, culminating in a far from comfortable game.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored in the 66th minute at the Velodrome, but it wasn’t enough for Marseille to overcome Nice, who equalized from the penalty spot in the 88th minute through Elye Wahi.
The other two games today yielded a ‘rain of goals’, especially Le Havre-Metz, which ended 4-4.
Rafael Luís was a key figure in Strasbourg’s 3-2 victory in Lorient.
