Sporting and Benfica confirmed their status as favorites today and qualified for the final of the Portuguese Handball Cup, after eliminating Marítimo and Águas Santas, respectively.
At the João Rocha Pavilion in Lisbon, the ‘Lions’, defending champions and who won the first leg away 40-37, again imposed themselves on Marítimo by an impressive 42-28, a difference of 14 goals in a match where they were already leading 21-15 at halftime.
Sporting’s Salvador Salvador scored eight goals, the same number as the islanders Délcio Pina and Diogo Silva.
After losing in Maia by three goals, 31-28, Benfica overcame Águas Santas by the same 14 goals, namely 36-22: at halftime, the hosts were leading 14-9.
Sporting, seeking their fifth consecutive title in the competition, is the club with the most Portuguese Cups, namely 19, followed by ABC with 12, FC Porto with nine, and Benfica with six.
The final will be played on June 7th, at a location to be determined.
