“The more of us there are, the more we can achieve. There are more dreams and projects to fulfill and realize. We stand up for our history, and I need you to face what lies ahead,” he says in the post.
Comments poured in quickly, and one stood out with a proposal for Juan Sebastián Verón: “If we reach 100,000 members, will you play a Copa Libertadores match?” His response sparked even more excitement, as the former midfielder didn’t shy away from yet another challenge in his career.
What makes this potential comeback particularly intriguing is that the former player is 51 years old and retired from professional football over a decade ago. This membership drive for Estudiantes could lead to a nostalgic moment—though it wouldn’t be the first time.
Back in 2017, Juan Sebastián Verón made a promise that involved returning to the pitch, albeit temporarily. He pledged to play if the club managed to sell 65% of the private boxes at its new stadium (Estadio UNO).
He kept his word, and the Argentine went on to play five Copa Libertadores matches for Estudiantes. It is worth noting that, at the time, Verón was 42 years old.
Regarding the latest challenge aimed at increasing the club’s number of members, the Argentine press has provided further details.
According to *Diário Olé*, Estudiantes had 56,000 members at the beginning of this year—that is, in January 2026. This recruitment campaign to expand the membership base aims to reach a total of 70,000 members.
