Former FC Porto player Éder Militão is expected to be sidelined for several months, and his participation in the 2026 World Cup is at risk after undergoing surgery on his left thigh.
“Our player Éder Militão underwent successful surgery today to repair a rupture of the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris in his left leg,” Real Madrid said in a statement released today, without specifying the period of absence.
Operated on in Finland, under the care of the club’s medical team, the 28-year-old Brazilian defender “will begin his recovery in the coming days.”
According to the Spanish and Brazilian press, he is expected to be sidelined for at least five months, thus missing the final stages of the 2026 World Cup (United States-Mexico-Canada), from June 11 to July 19.
Militão has a recent history of serious injuries, including two anterior cruciate ligament ruptures, and this new setback represents a hard blow for both the player and the Brazilian national team coach, Italian Carlo Ancelotti – his former coach at Real Madrid – who considers him “one of the best defenders in the world”.
